The Reformation Day Conference 2016 logo has three elements: a sun; a tulip; and the event title.
At the top-right, the conference theme is enclosed within a sun: five major rays radiate from the sun.
The five major rays represent the ‘Five Solas of the Reformation’, which are five Latin phrases that summarize the foundational theological principles of the Protestant Reformation:
>> Sola Scriptura (Scripture alone) >> Sola Gratia (by grace alone) >> Sola Fide (through faith alone) >> Solus Christus (in Christ alone) >> Soli Deo Gloria (for the glory of God alone)
The emanation of the five major rays from the sun highlights the symbolism of the five major rays as it is a homophonic play upon the Greek word ‘sola’ and the English word ‘solar’ (which has the meaning ‘of or relating to the sun’)
On the left, the acronym ‘RDC” is enfolded within a tulip.
The tulip represents the ‘Doctrines of Grace’ (widely remembered by the acronym TULIP), which are the core theological doctrines of the Protestant Reformation:
>> Total Depravity >> Unconditional Election >> Limited Atonement == many Protestants prefer to refer to this doctrine as 'Particular Atonement' >> Irresistible Grace >> Preservation of the Saints
The event title is centrally located within the logo, immediately catching the viewer’s attention and subsequently directing the viewer’s gaze to the other elements of the logo.
